Lost at sea
Last year we ended up publishing two reviews for Justice League because I had a completely different review of the film compared to our comics guy, Kyle, who actually liked the movie. This year its the same deal for Aquaman and while I question if my criticisms of the DC movies are now my own doing because of this pre notion I have to them, well, not being great I also feel backed up in the fact that this film has a cover of Toto’s hit song Africa by Mr Worldwide himself…Pitbull!
Aquaman follows the story of Arthur Curry, a half man half Atlantean whose mother escaped to the surface world and fell in love with Arthur’s father. It is on this quest that Pitbull’s Africa just suddenly appears and as I listen to it now and my ears start to slowly fill with blood I realise that this is what is going wrong both in this film and the DC universe. Aquaman simply tries too hard to be cool. The start of the film opens with Aquaman saving a submarine and it’s both awkward and hilariously outrageous for all the wrong reasons with slow-motion running through water and SNL style looking at the camera when you do something cool. It almost feels like a joke

It’s hard I get it, DC
I would see another Aquaman film, they at least made the character work and you at least routed for the character. With a bit more build up and self-dignity in how everything around him is represented and by that I mean music choices and
Hey, at least there is an octopus that plays the drums…and that is pretty neat.
