Look I’m not the world’s biggest Fast Franchise fan so if you’re here for the thoughts of a man who loves this franchise then please look elsewhere. If you’re looking for the views of a man who has seen half of them and watched a recap to catch up and that recap made the experience better because of the jokes made in it, then this is for you, and thank you for reading.
I’m currently listening to a playlist I created called “Dominic Toretto’s Family Party” (you can find it here: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/13FS0OmcYGuK2kX9nUrwBF?si=a187974674f0451e). It kind of explains the film in the sense that Fast X is a globe-trotting film involving Dom’s family in different countries. It is the Avengers Infinity War of the Fast Franchise, words I definitely didn’t think I’d ever write. Dom’s family is all separated after being tricked by Jason Momoa’s villain Dante. Dom must face Dante and keep his son safe while also protecting the rest of his family, picking and choosing who survives. Pretty surreal plot actually.
The Fast Franchise is at the point of just printing money and it’s quite impressive that there is some structure to the films to be fair. Jason Momoa’s fantastic portrayal of Dante is a character that has come back to haunt Vin Diesel’s Dom, something I wasn’t expecting to be fair, as all of the events of the previous Fast films start to haunt the sacred family.
In terms of trying to get more blood from the stone or cash out of the ATM in this sense, it works but how it will be a three-act finale I have no idea. Have to give the writers Justin Lin and Dan Mazeau some credit, they really did a good job at splitting the team up and putting the family’s back to the wall, and actually making it believable!
Critical analysis. Big Deal. Who cares about that for these films anymore? Fast Franchise is about fast fun! Cars exploding! Crazy CGI stunts and somewhat unnecessary fights when time is against the family! Fast X is filled with these, the CGI and visuals are sometimes not the best, feels like a video made by Universal theme parks, not studios, maybe see it in those moving seats!
Look Sister Sledge once sang in the song ‘We Are Family’:
No (we), we don’t get depressed
‘Cause here’s what we call our golden rule
Have faith in you and the things you do
You won’t go wrong, oh no
This is our family jewel
I’ve realized that this is the plot of all Fast and the Furious movies and must be on the whiteboard in the writing room. Does it go back to this verse? is what they yell when thinking about characters and plot points. A critical analysis would say it is borderline watchable, a bunch of scenes put together to make a film and make it look like people are in the same room as each other.
It isn’t about the racing anymore, was it really ever about the racing though? No really was it? I need to know.
Every movie is someone’s favorite and Fast Franchise exists because people love these films, I get giddy at the thought of Luke Skywalker returning in Star Wars so why can’t someone go nuts over one of the Fast characters coming back if you accept it for what it is and just enjoy it then its a fun, hilarious, action-packed and globe-trotting ride. Also, John Cena is great! He’s just a funny cool guy, isn’t he?
Two scores for this one:
Critical Analysis: 2/5
Car exploding, badass, ass-kicking globe-trotting, sometimes laughable fun film score: 4/5 or It’s not for me but I get it.
