You Just Check In at Westeros
And Game of Thrones is now back. Yes, it’s that time of the year where everyone you know either talk about the show or talks about how they don’t watch the show. Now we’re bringing you brief reviews of each episode every Monday as we all slowly wait for the ending of this show. Let us begin:
Arya Stark is Pretty Far Gone
The season premiere opens with Arya Stark still getting more revenge on those at The Twins for what they did to Rob Stark and company. She truly has gone pretty far from the character you see in season one to the now Mission Impossible face c hanging assassin she has become. The show spends most of the episode going to each army and their current placing in the world and Arya is currently her own one woman army, especially when she tells Ed Sheeran (yes Ed Sheeran who drops a fresh track) that she is going to go kill the Queen, alright Arya ballsy move but maybe she should have a bit of a better plan….maybe Ed and her can plan it out in song in the next episode?
Jon Loves Being Kind and Sansa Admires Cersei?
Next up we have Jon Snow holding a meeting at Winterfell for all of the men from the north trying to figure out what their next move is. Here we see more of Jon and Sansa arguing subtly, it’s not subtle, over what to do to the families of those who betrayed them. Tell you what if Arya was there they’d already be poisoned or eating their own family members but instead we get bickering which ends up in the North being stronger and more fortified even though you and I both know they’re all going to be smashed. Jon and Sansa are currently having their own version of being from different worlds as they’ve been experiencing different hardships of their own, except Jon’s is a little more intense because he died…and has been fighting White Walkers, but then again Sansa had to put up with Ramsey so she had it bad as well. We also get to see Brienne teaching Podrick how to fight, I really hope he doesn’t die.
Sam Gets Shit Done
Literally. Sam cleans up crap for what is a disgusting montage of the shit, no pun intended, he has to go through. He finally steals some keys and enters the forbidden section of the library at Hogwarts to figure out who Nicolas Flamel is and what he has to do with the Philosophers Stone….sorry I mean to get information about the soon to be happening attack by the bloody undead White Walkers who no one seems to care about! Seriously I’d be giving that information away free of charge if I was in charge. Sam ends up succeeding and finds out that there is a mountain of dragonglass (kills White Walkers in case you forgot) at Dragonstone thus pushing Jon and Daenerys’ plot lines closer together. Afterwards, Sam is getting the plates from the prisoners sick with greyscale only to be stopped by Jorah who clearly already failed at his mission of finding the cure.
Cersei Gets Desperate
In Kings Landing we see Cersei and Jaime arguing about how Cersei is going crazy and Jaime, remember when he was like the douche character, is a voice of reason trying to talk some sense into her sister by saying they aren’t strong anymore. Cersei calls upon Euron Greyjoy to be their new allies so they can use their fleet of ships but Cersei turns him down when he asks to marry her, wouldn’t do that she’ll definitely kill you mate. Euron promises to bring back the best present for her and Jaime is pissed at that, but like really? Isn’t he like over her now? I mean he should be in the first place but she has been a real dick to him.
The Hound is Now a Soft Angry Puppy
All the way back in Season 3 The Hound stole from a farmer and his daughter and now The Hound and the Brotherhood happen upon the same house except that farmer and his daughter are dead inside after The Hound left them to die. Pretty brutal on The Hound as he is becoming more of a softy but fair because he’s going through a moment of reconciliation before he does something like sacrifice himself to save Arya or someone next season I’m sure.
Starks at The Wall Again
At The Wall Meera and Bran arrive there and tell the Night’s Watch that they aren’t Wildlings and basically Eddison stares out into the winter as if something bad is going to happen soon, and I hope it does.
6 Seasons Later and Daenerys is Finally Back Home
In what is now surely the longest ever journey filmed by human kind, Daenerys is finally home at Dragonstone and no one say anything at all but what it brings is the hope that from now on this season will pick up the pace. The castle was empty, which I find pretty hard to believe like no one just decided to stay there? You get a nice visual of what the whole castle looks like and all the dragon statues, it’s almost as if the show is trying to introduce you to the castle because a battle, later on, will be cooler if you know how it is fortified, but who knows that’s just my opinion on it. I’m just glad that her seasons of walking are finally over.
Score: 3/5
– Overall this was far too slow an episode which does the usual Game of Thrones thing of checking in on every character, despite an episode long ‘previously on’ at the beginning. Now that the characters have their place in the world I hope the pace picks up quickly and we start to get the ending in sight. We’ve all been waiting too long for more walking around… there are only 12 episodes left!
