Workaholics Meets Die Hard.
Game Over, Man! Is a Netflix original movie created by Adam Devine, Anders Holm and Blake Anderson the same comedy trio who created Workaholics. The film is directed by Kyle Newacheck who has collaborated with the Workaholic guys before and I feel as though this shows in the end product. The comedy trio are in fine form in this outing and they go all out in this film. However, this film is not a masterpiece and it is safe to say they are well aware of this. I do believe this film is not trying to be anything but a mindless, zany and ridiculous comedy. I think if you go into this film expecting over the top comedy then you will be pleased.
There really isn’t much to the plot in this film. The three main protagonist are housekeeping at a hotel with aspirations of being game developers. They plan on pitching their Skintendo idea to a billionaire playboy Bae Awadi who is played masterfully by Utkarsh Ambudkar. At the party hosted by the Bae, it then escalates to a hostage situation and the hotel/party guests are held for ransom. Then it seems the only hope the hostages have is the three idiot burnouts to save them. From that, the story just gets weirder, funnier and has some genuinely awesome cameos.
The main issues I have with this film is I felt like it was another episode of Workaholics. Just a really long episode of Workaholics. The reason why I feel like this is because the main characters are more or less the same characters from Workaholics. It’s tired old bits that wore thin by the end of Workaholics. It just feels like more of the same and similar to the title of the review it is Workaholics meets Die Hard. That being said this film is far gorier than your standard comedy. Go into this film expecting a fair bit of violence but some awesome action.
There are really good performances and things in this film that many people will like. There are lots of funny bits and just as much stupid shit that you will either love or hate. I think the best part of this film is the chemistry between all the actors in this film and even the cameos are standouts of this film. Another really good performance that I felt helped make this film was Steve Howey’s character as the few scenes he was in were by far the best for me. You may know Steve Howey as the loveable Kev from Shameless. His performance is absolutely brilliant in this and I hope to see him in more projects in the future as he is an awesome comedic actor.
Overall I find it hard to confidently recommend this film as it really isn’t an incredible film. It is a good film if you are in a silly mood and looking for an easy laugh. If you are a fan of the Workaholic series and the Workaholic boys then you will either love this film or just feel a bit tired of the same kind of humour. Without spoiling the ending it does end in a way that makes me feel there is potential for an awesome sequel. It would just be good to see the Workaholic guys try to branch out and do something new and not just change the setting.
