Have I Done Something Wrong?
It’s that time of the month again, where I go to my local comic shop and give the same bashful look I always give, as they pull out my subscriptions for the week and I pan across the shop counter observing my buy pile. I see great titles; Batman, Runaways, Hellboy and then I come across Kingsman… again. Its almost like I can’t escape it and now its that old cliché where I don’t want to, I need to know how this train wreck ends. I’m not a negative man by nature and maybe this comic will surprise me by the end? I doubt it, but hey! Who knows?!
What is there new to say? Let’s start where I always start and deconstruct the writing. Its terrible, once again. Not only is it as average in its storytelling (like last time) but this time instead of offending South Africans and women, its moved to Australian’s. Its boring, and its beyond me how a world ending cataclysmic event can come off derivative. Not once have I been excited by this comic, and not once have I laughed. It really just bums me out every time I open one of these issues.
Now, onto the art. Sanford Greene is doing these special black and white covers and they’re great! Although, I don’t know whose fault it is, but I can’t tell who the characters on the front are meant to be? Who ever it is, it tells a better story than the one that’s written. Frankly the art should’ve been done by Sanford and not Simon Fraser, as once again it seems rushed and very little care has been put in at all.
I don’t understand how this comic is still going, maybe it’s a bunch of me’s going around buying it to review it? Maybe it’s a sick circle of life thing happening? I don’t know but I do know that I don’t like it. I don’t enjoy this comic, I don’t think ill enjoy the next one. The only thing that I can enjoy is that, I’m halfway through this mess. I just have to hope I get through with my sanity intact.
