The Secret War is the eighteenth and final short film for the first season of Netflix’s animated shorts anthology series Love, Death & Robots. The short film is directed by Istvan Zorkóczy, with animation by Digic Pictures.
The Secret War follows a group of Russian soldiers as they explore Russian looking for an unknown enemy. The enemy ends up being a monstrous force which is their nightmare and their creation.
An insanely realistic CG Russian wartime setting was slow going to start but if you feel like stopping at any point, do not. It ends up being really great. A slowly paced trudge through an older maybe alternate timeline Russia isn’t normally interesting to me, and I don’t think it grabbed me at the start but by the end, I understood why it was written the way it was and I’m glad they made that choice. In the beginning, it was one of the worst ones I had seen, but by the end, it ranks very high as The Secret War’s
