It’s that time of the year again where Star Wars comes out and so does the new Disney animated film. It’s a time that is fantastic to all that love Disney and not so great to the small amount of non Disney lovers. Moana is the new animated film and it’s set in Polynesia, an area of the ocean including islands such as Hawaii, New Zealand, Samoa, Tonga and many more. This setting allows for the making of such a beautiful film. In my opinion water is one of the elements of animation that isn’t always perfect and is clearly hard to do but right from the get go you see the water in this film and I was blown away. The animation in this film is unlike anything I’ve seen before. The water makes you want to go swimming and exploring reefs and the islands make you want to go exploring and go on an amazing summer holiday to a tropical paradise. This mixed in with the fantastic soundtrack, songs by the always great Lin-Manuel Miranda, a sweet story that doesn’t get boring or too repetitive like some Disney films can be and an all around good feel creates one of my favourite films of the year. It is enjoyable and you will definitely be listening to the soundtrack over and over again until you know all the words. Moana is something different and that is where I believe it succeeds. It isn’t about pets or princesses it is about a girl who wants to take care of her beautiful island, explore and be adventurous. Disney have struck gold again with another animated film that will easily contest for the top spot in everyone’s favourite Disney films list.

Score: 4.5/5 – Another hit animated film for Disney. Moana will go down as a Disney classic to fans and is enjoyable to all. It’s a beautiful film with a fantastic soundtrack and the film is different to other kids films to stand out in the crowded year of animated films we’ve had this year.
