There is one film on Quibi that is benefitting from the chapter releases and that is Most Dangerous Game. Releasing films in chapters is something that I felt unsure of and for Quibi’s other film Survivor it hasn’t worked to the film’s advantage but Most Dangerous Game is using the chapters well.
Most Dangerous Game follows Dodge (Liam Hemsworth) who has recently been diagnosed with a tumour in his brain, his wife is pregnant and they are in a lot of debt. Dodge visits a man named Miles (Christoph Waltz) who offers an opportunity to Miles. The opportunity is to be hunted in the city for money every hour he stays alive.
Getting past the first episode, which is a bit too generic, Most Dangerous Game then gifts you with chapters that actually feel like a book you don’t want to put down. Only four episodes in its hard to tell if it can keep up with its chapter by chapter success but at the end of episode four, I’ve been teased enough to want to the next chapter now. The first four episodes are one big set up for the chapters to come.
Liam Hemsworth is good as Dodge but it is Christoph Waltz who is brilliantly playing a good guy/bad guy character. Waltz’s acting and character reminds me of the people John Wick interacts with when he is given a task, Waltz brings a gravitas to the scene that really lifts the whole series.
It’s obvious that Most Dangerous Game has a high budget and after the fourth chapter, the action is about to begin. I’m all in now that I’m on the edge of my seat and I’m hoping the quality can match the tease it has given to us so far.
