Normally I wouldn’t condone hitting rabbits, well I never will…but if some Rabbits kidnapped my fellow cooks then I might think differently. Radical Rabbit Stew is a game where you have to hit rabbits to solve puzzles both big and small. As a little chef, you have to travel to each rabbit filled puzzle to fight back against the rabbits and find your fellow cooks.
Radical Rabbit Stew works best when you pick it up and play every so often. I found myself coming home from work and solving a few puzzles then putting it down again. While there is an achievement for completing the game in an hour it is a great game to just solve a few puzzles throughout the week.
Where Radical Rabbit Stew shines is certainly its design, it’s small arcade-style characters are bright and colourful yet tough at the same time. Every time you acquire a game-altering spoon your little guy acts all big and tough in both a cute and let’s knock these rabbits out of the puzzles way. There has clearly been a lot of love and care put into the design of the game, which is great because it adds to the small package of fun the game is.
The game-altering spoons are the saviour in terms of progression as some stages do start to feel old until one appears. My favourite was a big hand that you can use to grab rabbits and hurl yourself across the puzzles, it really wasn’t something I was expecting to do.
Whilst picking up and playing the game is easy, sitting there and listening to a podcast while completing the whole thing would be even easier. It also makes the experience better as some of the sound effects aren’t great when you listen to them over and over again. Your experience isn’t hindered by playing with those sound effects off which makes it at least a little acceptable.
Multiplayer wise hitting rabbits into a big stew is the type of couch multiplayer chaos people want! The multiplayer and the big boss fights are the toughest and most satisfying parts of Radical Rabbit Stew with boss fights being frantic and tough enough to challenge you.
I feel like I haven’t used enough cooking puns so I’ll end this by simply saying Radical Rabbit Stew is a strange yet great recipe. The arcade art style belongs on an arcade machine in your favourite diner. The puzzles range from easy to what are we going to order for dinner tonight challenging. At its low price point, Radical Rabbit Stew is a great option for anyone with an appetite for indie puzzle games…unless you’re really against violence towards arcade rabbits.
