Must Watch Things This April:
The month of April has a lot of awesome content coming out and this article is set to help you find out what you should spend your precious time on. Hopefully, this article will also help you discover things that you may not have been aware of.
Titan: This is a Netflix original film starring Sam Worthington (Avatar) and Taylor Schilling (Orange Is The New Black) and is about trying to get to one of the Saturn’s moons to try and save the human race. The Earth in this film is close to extinction from nuclear war, lack of resources and overpopulation. So the premise is to alter a set few people through forced evolution to be able to live on Titan. I have already seen this film and do not intend on reviewing it in this article but was a bit baffled by the film’s logic of sending a handful of people to an almost inhospitable moon to somehow terraform a moon for the human race? Furthermore, it is not even made clear if it is their intention. I felt their plan was just to alter humans to send them to Titan and then screw everyone else left on Earth. Regardless it is an interesting premise and worth a watch. Titan can be found on Netflix now.
6 Balloons: Another Netflix original film starring Dave Franco (Bad Neighbours and The Disaster Artists) and Abbi Jacobson (Broad City). The movie is about a woman (Jacobson) who drives across Los Angeles with her brother (Franco), who is addicted to heroin in search of a detox clinic. The trailer for this film looks intense. It also doesn’t give a lot away but from what you can see it does appear to be an emotional experience. It actually looks like a movie where Dave Franco can show off some more dramatic acting compared to his previous roles. I am eager to see this film when it comes out on the 6th of April.
Lost In Space: It must seem like all the movies and TV shows in this article are on Netflix and it is the same case for the recently rebooted Lost In Space series. This is a reimagining of the original Lost In Space that aired back in the late 60’s but actually looks to be far superior than the 1998 film Lost In Space from the trailer alone. The trailer kind of shows that this is going to be a fun series and yet a darker version all at the same time. The series stars Toby Stephens (Die Another Day and Black Flags) and Molly Parker (House of Cards and Deadwood) as the lead roles and head of the Robinson family. The best part is the robot from this version of Lost In Space actually looks cool. Make sure you check this out on the 13th of April.
Barry Season 1: Barry is an American dark comedy series starring everyone favourite SNL performer Bill Hader. This series was actually written by Hader himself and Alec Berg. Barry is a midwestern hitman that goes to L.A. to perform a hit and finds himself getting involved in a local theatre group and catches the acting bug. As Barry discovers his new passion for acting he finds himself questioning what it is he wants to do. Should Barry pursue acting? Continue doing hits? Or try to do both? These are some of the things that makes Barry look like an awesome new show to get into. Barry can be found on Foxtel and technically started airing back on March 25th but still deserves to make this list.
Legion Season 2: Legion is the second season in the very popular tv series starring Dan Stevens (Beauty and The Beast and The Guest) as the title character. Legion is about a young mutant David Haller who is diagnosed with Schizophrenia but comes to realise that the voices he hears and the visions he sees may actually be real. The first season did have some genuinely bizarre moments and I can only imagine that this season is going to double down on the weirdness. However, I feel that is what makes Legion so interesting. If you are a fan of Legion or the X-men franchise in general than make sure you tune in to watch Legion Season 2 on FX.
Westworld Season 2: If you did not see the first season of Westworld back in 2016 then what is wrong with you? The only acceptable answer is that you must have been in a coma or living with an Amish community. As everyone was talking about Westworld and rightly so as it was incredible. With way too many big names in the show to even list in this paragraph. The TV show is based on the 70’s film of the same name. The series, however, gives it a modern take and brings stunning set pieces, visual effects, performances, action, intrigue and all the nudity you could want. Season 1 was immensely popular with viewers and critics and the second season already looks to do the same. If you haven’t seen the first season I would highly recommend binge-watching the first season in preparation for season 2 which can be found on HBO on April 22nd.
Bobby Kennedy for President:
This documentary is a four-hour documentary series based on the presidential run of Robert Kennedy from the beginning of his presidential campaign to his assassination at the Ambassador Hotel on June 1968. This documentary series looks really interesting and I feel as though Bobby Kennedy always gets overlooked as everyone tends to focus on John Kennedy who was actually president. Although this doc may not be for everyone I do believe if you are interested in history or even just the Kennedy’s this documentary is for you. You can find this documentary on the 27th of April on Netflix.
