Riverdale is an adaption of the Archie Comics that you’ve heard of but probably didn’t read. Riverdale is a show that is on The CW, same channel that did Gossip Girl and Vampire Diaries. Riverdale is slightly different to those because it is part of this new type of teen drama shows that are starting to come out now. Awhile ago Scream became a TV show and if you haven’t watched it I recommend you do because despite some bad acting at times and some cheesy stuff it is extremely enjoyable to watch every week because it is a show you can talk about. Much like Scream Riverdale is a show you can talk about, you can discuss who has done what, how stupid everyone is and which character you like best because at it’s core it takes itself seriously with a pinch of simply knowing how to appeal to a wider audience. The show centres around the death of one of the beloved students at Riverdale High School as well as the life of Archie Andrews. The show is a little too ridiculously dark, like Vampire Diaries, it does look like there is really bad smog in the town but it works it well. The characters are all slightly different and the plots for each are sometimes good and sometimes bad, that meaning some are like “yeah we’ve seen this before” whilst others are more of an “oh alright okay wasn’t expecting that”. The show succeeds in the fact that you have no idea who the killer is and why they did it, a story arch that I hope they finish this season because dragging it out would be the end of me watching this show. At the end of every episode is a little hook that makes you want to watch the next and I really do wish I could just binge watch the show on Netflix but alas I can’t. Riverdale isn’t anything spectacular but it is better than I expected. Similar to The Lego Movie, Riverdale is a ridiculous idea turned into something surprisingly good that I imagine not many were expecting. Is Riverdale the next OC? No. Is Riverdale your way back into teen drama shows now that you’re older than 21? Maybe because it just depends on your ability to stick with it. I reviewed the show after two episodes because I wanted to see if it could stick the landing a second time and it did. The set-up of the show is intriguing and I’m excited to watch more as it progresses. Riverdale is a show that you should at least try because Riverdale could be the place that you can really enjoy going to on a weekly basis.
VERDICT
Will I continue watching: Yes, I want to see what the show has because I think it can surprise me.
Do I recommend it: Yes. Riverdale is an easy to watch type of show and it could be a good binge watch. If you love shows like Pretty Little Liars or Scream or The OC then yes you should try it.
Score: 3.5/5 – It isn’t a four because it could falter in the next episode and it isn’t a three because I’m intrigued and will continue watching it. I’ll stay in Riverdale for a few more episodes because the show is good and enjoyable but one or two wrong moves and I’m gone….no pressure.
Riverdale is out on Netflix every Friday
