I need to review something thats bad to even out all my scores, is what I think to myself. What can I watch that is new is my next thought as I scroll through every website and streaming service. I know that new Drew Barrymore comedy where she is like a mum zombie I’ll most likely hate that!
Ah fuck. Okay, fine, Santa Clarita Diet follows Sheila and Joel, a married couple, who find themselves in a predicament when Sheila becomes a zombie and has to eat people and they have to kill people and yes okay I think it is funny. In fact, it is better than funny it is actually good. And smart. And binge-worthy…..and I don’t mind it. The show starts off a little rocky but there is one disgusting moment where it switches on its comedy and you strap yourself in for a ride you didn’t know you wanted to take. Yes the show has its flaws and sometimes you’re just watching it and you’re not laughing but when the show makes you laugh it is a laugh out loud laugh and it feels good. Sheila and Joel playing against each other is the funniest part as you have the sick mind of Sheila who needs to eat people and you get the freaked out, but calm, mind of Joel who just wants to have a normal life but knows he can’t have anymore. The show is shot really well and it has that easy to watch on a lazy day vibe to it where you can jump in paying attention at any point in the episode and still enjoy it. It isn’t the greatest comedy and it’s not the best comedy Netflix has made but it is up there instead of at the rejected pile, like The Ranch. Santa Clarita Diet, should be called The Santa Clarita Diet because typing it is annoying me and my auto correct is going crazy, is worth your time if you have time to spare. If you don’t have time to spare then it’s always going to be there as the jokes are about the show and it being more self-inclusive makes it seem more together planned out than your average comedy. There I said it, I enjoy it and I will continue binge watching it.
VERDICT
Do I Reccommend This Show? Yes. It is a good show, not the best show but it does what it sets out to do and it does it well.
Score: 3.5/5 – It isn’t the funniest show at times and I hope as I watch it more, the jokes come more frequently. There is something about this show that makes you want to binge watch it and that makes it worth your time, whether you’re disgusting like Sheila or freaked out like Joel you’ll most likely enjoy this show, especially because it is so easy to watch.
