Take the Ten is out today on Netflix everywhere
Take the Ten is the first of many Netflix films set for release this year and it isn’t exactly the greatest start. The film follows two supermarket shop employees, one who wants to sell his car and go to Brazil and another who wants to go to a rap concert and is clearly a bad friend. The film is going for a 21 Jump Street mixed with a Seth Rogen comedy film vibe but really ends up being more of those two mixed with a B grade comedy and an MA rated Nickelodeon movie, like the Drake & Josh film. Speaking of which, Josh Peck is in this film and he is alright but his character’s brother who is played by Andy Samberg is much funnier in his five minutes on screen. The film doesn’t look like a B-grade film and it has that Netflix quality but ultimately the jokes fall short and the story is a bit lackluster. There are some jokes that will make you chuckle and even some acting that will but that is unfortunately all its got. It does have a different way of telling the story than what I expected but it makes the film feel a little long when it isn’t really needed. The film is slightly enjoyable but really is a good time waster that will be on your Netflix list for ages until one day you need something to watch and you notice it is sitting there. I hope that the Netflix film has a better story than this which is one that feels overdone and unoriginal, the film has a bit of promise but just doesn’t use it.
Expectation Level: Medium, Netflix usually has top quality products
Expectations not achieved: For the first Netflix film of the year it is a bit of a letdown.
Score: 2/5 – A film that probably couldn’t be much better than it is given the story. Had the story been more original and unlike other’s of the same genre than the film would be much more enjoyable, you wouldn’t know what is going to happen. A few chuckles aside the film will be on my do you want to watch it again list forever….unwanted
