Attempting to Escape From The Bad Place
The latest episode of The Good Place finally feels like the story is developing rather than standing still or repeating itself as it has done in the last three episodes. After the huge twist that occurred at the end of the last season, I expected there to be a more developed and interesting plot for this season. This fourth episode has seemed to have found its roots.
Our lead characters, Eleanor, Chidi, Tahani and Jason have teamed up with Michael, pretending that their memories have once again been erased and they are unaware that they are in the Bad Place. Michael is learning what it feels like to be human by taking ethics lessons from Chidi. Tahani is having a hard time accepting herself and the reasons for her being in the Bad Place. The other demons are so far unaware that their torture techniques are a waste.
The show seems to be lacking the same humour that was apparent in the first season. Perhaps it is due to the characters not really knowing each other as their memories were wiped and the relationship dynamics are not yet apparent. There seems to be too much to get through in a 22-minute episode. Tahani and Jason were more secondary characters in the first season but now there are now five leads including Michael and there just seems like there is too much going on.
It will be interesting to see where the story is leading to. If it is anything like the first season then there is a point and purpose to the story arch. I can’t see much of a future for the show but I do hope that I a plot twist will change my mind soon.
