Westworld is a show that seemed to be stuck in development hell. It felt like it was announced ages ago and because of that it wasn’t on a lot of people’s minds when it first came out. The wait for the show took along time but in a way it is a similar reason as to why the show is so great. Westworld is an enormous amount of build up towards an epic feature length season finale that will make the up to two years of waiting for the next season torturous. The show itself is obviously explained in the title as it is set in an old west style theme park with robots (hosts) who the park visitors (guests) can do anything with. The show revolves around both the hosts and the guests and their evolution as they find out about the park and themselves. The main thing with the show is to stick with it, its slow burn isn’t the best and episodes are hard to get in too because they’re so long. If you manage to make it through the first three episodes then you are set for probably the whole show and the next season.
The main question you’re probably asking is “will it be my Game of Thrones while Game of Thrones isn’t on?” and yes it will be. The two shows are similar, power struggles and all, whilst also being vastly different. Westworld is a refreshing show with cinematic qualities which is something fresh and new, despite it being a remake of the original Westworld film. My only advice i would have for you is to solve the show yourself. By this I mean allow the show to reveal its secrets to you because the reveals are good if you don’t already know them. Avoiding fan theories can make you a bit confused at times as to what is going on but the last three episodes will be continuos reveals which is nothing but exciting to look forward too.
Overall the whole show is a success and not knowing whether or not they’d have a second season whilst filming has done the show a favour in not leaving heaps of secrets waiting but instead wrapping everything up and leaving just a sprinkle of what’s to come. The team of Jonathan Nolan, Lisa Joy and JJ Abrams have done a fantastic job at creating a show which seemed like it may never of gotten out of its own world and into ours.
