Home Life, Taking it Easy Life
Sometimes when you choose a film you decide that you just want to watch something that is happy and you don’t have to pay attention to. You’re looking for a film that you don’t mind falling asleep during or that you can just watch and enjoy and not have to worry about some deeper plot or glare at crazy special effects for once. If you understand what I’m talking about and you feel like watching that type of film then you’re in luck because Home Again is perfect for you right now.
Home Again follows the story of Alice, Reese Witherspoon, as she returns to her home with her two daughters after a falling out with her husband. On a night out Alice, whose father is a recently deceased famous filmmaker, runs into three young up and coming filmmakers who, after a wild night, end up living in her guest house. All three guys help out around the house and end up taking a liking to Alice and being best friends with her daughters until Alice’s husband finds out and tries to win Alice back from the three young men.
It’s a tale as old as time, obviously, and its a tale that you can really tell came from the mind of a filmmaker. The story is strangely satisfying yet at the same time it’s so bonkers and unrealistic that you can’t help but laugh, While you’re laughing, however, you’re contemplating the fact that you’re rather enjoying this very easy flick and trying to figure out why you like it so much. It’s really simple really, its that with every film going on around you this film is so happy and easy that you can’t help but relax and enjoy the make belief drama.
I’m not really going to get into the brass tax of what the film is all about because it doesn’t really have a message to say, except maybe chase whatever makes you happy and always stick by your friends and loved ones…whatever is written in most Hallmark cards. The character’s relationships are just them being best friends while dealing with the everyday troubles, like when your BFF starts writing a different screenplay instead of the one you’re working on together…I hate it when that happens. All sarcasm and jokes aside though, the film does do enough ground work for what it is to be at least a surprisngly entertaining films.
Home Again isn’t exactly an Oscar drama hit or a blockbuster movie, instead I would see it as a good detox for your blockbuster ridden brain. It’s a film that’ll have your eyes rolling like a marble being pushed hastily across the room by an enormous fan, yes that much! Home Again might not be the film for you particularly but its the film for someone you know, take your mum or your girlfriend to go see it and have some quality time with them. Laugh together at it’s easy and stupid jokes and just sit there and relax for 90 minutes, you’re gonna need it because its only a month until your mind is blissfully unrelaxed and tortured by the Justice League movie.
